JogMog Privacy Policy

JogMog is a running pet: a creature ("mog") that you keep alive by running. We collect as little as possible, there are no ads, no advertising or analytics trackers, and we never sell your data. There is no login: your account is an anonymous random ID generated on your device.

What we store on our servers

To make the social features work, the following is sent to our backend (a Cloudflare Worker) and tied to your anonymous device ID:

Health & fitness data

Apple Health: JogMog reads your finished running workouts from Apple Health (with your permission) to know when you've run. That data is processed on your device into simple run records (date, distance, duration). JogMog never writes to Apple Health.

Directly connected wearables (optional): if you connect a watch brand directly (Garmin, COROS, Polar, Suunto, Fitbit, Wahoo, Oura, Zwift, or Google), the connection is powered by Terra API, a service provider that receives your workouts from the brand you authorize and passes them to our server. Our server turns each finished run into the same simple run records, reading its stats (date, distance, duration, and workout metrics such as average heart rate, cadence, elevation, and calories). We keep the derived run records and your connection ID, not an ongoing copy of the raw provider feed. You can disconnect anytime in Settings → Run sources, and deleting your account also disconnects you at Terra.

Subscriptions & purchases

JogMog+ is an optional subscription bought through Apple. Apple processes the payment. We never see your name or payment details. We use RevenueCat, a service provider, to validate purchases: it receives your anonymous device ID and your subscription status/purchase history. Our server stores only whether your device currently has JogMog+.

Crash & usage data

The app reports crashes and a few basic usage events to our own server, with no third-party analytics. These are tied to your anonymous device ID and deleted automatically after 30 days.

Cloud backup & optional Sign in with Apple

Your game state, including your run history, is backed up to our servers under a private recovery code so you can restore it on a new phone. A backup that hasn't been refreshed in about 13 months expires and is deleted automatically.

You can optionally Sign in with Apple to tie that backup to your Apple ID. We receive only Apple's anonymous user identifier for our app, never your name or email, and we store it solely to reconnect you to your save when you sign in on another device. Or you can sign in with your email address instead: we send a one-time code to verify it, then keep only a cryptographic hash of the address, never the address itself, and never use it for marketing. Signing in is never required to play, and these identifiers are deleted with your account.

Direct messages & chat

Messages you send are stored so they can be delivered. Chat and DMs are filtered for slurs and you can report or block any user. Retention is short and automatic: chat messages are kept up to 30 days, direct messages up to 180 days, and finished game records (duels, leaderboard seasons, pack wars) age out within about six months.

Deleting your data

You can permanently delete everything at any time: Settings → Account → Delete my account & data. This erases your data on this device and on our servers (profile, chat, DMs, duels, scores, kills, friends, pack membership, push token, subscription status record, wearable connection, and any cloud backup).

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example the EU/EEA, UK, or California), you have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your data, and to object to or restrict some processing. Most of this is self-serve: the app shows you your data, and deleting your account (above) erases all of it. For anything else, email support@jogmog.com and we will respond within 30 days. If you are in the EU/EEA or UK, you can also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Where the GDPR applies, our legal bases are: contract (running the game and the social features you use), consent (the optional connections: Apple Health, wearables, notifications, sign-in; all revocable in Settings), and legitimate interests (keeping the service safe, preventing cheating, and fixing crashes). Our infrastructure runs on Cloudflare's global network, so data may be processed on servers outside your country, protected by standard contractual safeguards.

Children

JogMog is not directed at children and carries a high App Store age rating because user chat may contain mature language.

Changes

We'll update this page and the "last updated" date if our practices change.
